PartyLite Review 2018: Is It Another Pyramid Scheme or Legit Business?
You may or may not heard of PartyLite in recent years.
Perhaps you’ve purchased products from them, or perhaps you’ve seen them on a list of MLM companies.
Either way, you’re here because you want to get the straight dirt on this company.
Whether you were approached by a consultant of PartyLite or are interested in joining their MLM opportunity in your own, we’ll have the information that you need.
By the time you’re done this article, you should have a better understanding of whether or not you want to join this business or buy the product.
What is PartyLite?
PartyLite is a company that has been gaining popularity in recent years.
They have been both positively and negatively reviewed by many people.
Since we’re not affiliated with them in any way, we’ll give an unbiased review.
PartyLite is actually a part of a different company which is known as Blyth, Inc.
This larger company makes similar decorative products.
They were the largest candle-makers in the US back at the turn of the millennium.
By 2012, they were making more than a billion dollars annually.
PartyLite, which has actually existed since 1973, is now the direct sales branch of Blyth.
They’ve been operating as an MLM company for all these years.
Their first shop was opened in Massachusetts.
PartyLite was ranked at #31 out of the best MLM companies in the world in terms of generating money.

What Do They Sell?
PartyLite makes a variety of decorative products that can be suitable for party situations or for daily life.
The thing that they are best known for is their candles, though.
They have a huge variety:
- One-wick candles which are the simplest kind.
- Three wick jar candles, which are their signature products. These are just candles in a big jar with 3 wicks that you can light so you get more light.
- Pillar candles and tea lights.
- Candles essentials: tools for lighting candles, holding them, etc.
All of these candles are available in a variety of scents.
These scents vary from Red Apple to Sunset Woods to Black Currant to Peppermint Snowflake and everything in between.
Most Popular Products
PartyLite makes a variety of different products, and some have become more popular than others.
GloLite candles (known as “The Worlds Brightest Candles”)
Whether or not these are actually the brightest candles in the world is up for debate.
However, either because of the name or because of their intense brightness, these candles have become quite popular.
This lline is great and offers some good-smelling party decorations without the risk of a fire hazard. Scent Plus Melts and ScentGlow Warmers are very popular and great alternatives to candles.
SmartScents Fragrance Sticks and room sprays
They function a bit like Scentsy or Febreeze and are available for comparable prices.
What Makes These Candles So Special?
They offer products that are similar but much nicer than those found at outlets like Walmart.
They use food-grade paraffin wax and don’t add any dangerous ingredients to their candles, which is why they’re a bit more expensive.
The wicks themselves are made entirely out of cotton.
That means that there’s no smoke emitted from the candle when you burn it.
MLM Business Opportunity
PartyLite offers a good MLM, or multi-level marketing business opportunity.
This means that you can join the company and sell their products for them, and recruit members to do the same.
As you recruit more members into the company, you will increase in levels.
The higher your level, the more business opportunities, benefits and good deals you will be able to receive.
Generally, most MLMs are more concerned about how many people you can get to join the company instead of how much product you sell.
MLMs aren’t going to make you millions right away, but they can be a good way to supplement your income if you stick with it.
If you really dedicate yourself to an MLM, it’s possible to make a living wage, but not many people get to this point.
The Compensation Plan
PartyLite isn’t terribly upfront about how their compensation plan works, but we’ve managed to glean the basics.
Party hosts – members of the company who host product parties to promote them and to make sales – get a mixture of host credit and half-price items.
Host credit is basically store credit that you can use at PartyLite store online.
However, you have to sell at least $200 worth of stuff to qualify for these benefits.
- Hosts who sell at least $200 of products will get a $50 credit
- Hosts that make more than $100 in sales will get a $250 credit
If you want to join the company as a host or a consultant, you’ll have to buy a starter kit for $99.
This will provide you with some products that you can sell, such as 3-wick candles or tealights.
If you manage to make $350 at your first party then you will have the price of your starter’s kit waived.
Commissions on your sales are about 25%, which isn’t insane but is still fair compared to other MLMs.
If you get other members to join you can get bonuses of up to 50% and you also get 7% commission from the money that people you get to join the company make.
Is It A Pyramid Scheme?
Most MLM companies are pyramid schemes at heart.
This is simply because of the way the companies are structured: the CEOs hire people beneath them to help run the company, these people get others to join, and these consultants get others to join.
The trend continues down the line, giving rise to a pyramid shaped structure.
Does that mean that it’s a scam? Absolutely not.
PartyLite has been around for almost 50 years and it’s well-known among MLM associates and customers alike.
Their business opportunity is fair and their products are high quality.
Yes, PartyLite operates as a pyramid structure, but it’s not a bad one.
PartyLite Customer Reviews & Complaints
While PartyLite has been around for a long time and their products continue to sell, they don’t seem to have the best reviews online.
At ConsumerAffairs, they only have a 2-star rating based off of 18 reviews that rated them.
One reviewer wasn’t happy with the online ordering process that he had to go through to get the products.
When placing an order at this company you have to go through a good 10 minute process just to finish the order.
Apparently, he didn’t realize that once he was completed his order, it had gone through, because the website took him “back to the beginning so you think your order did not go through and you start all again.”
Eventually, he ended up ordering twice because he couldn’t understand the way the orders were being placed.
That could just be an issue of technological illiteracy, though. However, how do the consultants feel?
One consultant, who is a mother of 3 kids, joined because she wanted a job she could do on her own time.
She claims that she hosted a party but after “items were received by customers, I have still not received my profit. Not for lack of trying.”
She has called the manager of the consultant department and the credit and collections department to no avail.
One customer was quite stoked on PartyLite, though.
They said that the “scents blow all other candles out of the water” and she really likes that she “doesn’t have to go to a retail store.”
Her experiences with consultants were very good, and she said that she had a “very helpful and friendly rep/consultant who is always advising me of upcoming deals.”
Prices & Where To Buy
PartyLite has pretty fair prices.
They cost a little bit more than brands of similar products that you’d find at Walmart or Target, but you’ll be paying less than you get from premium companies including Yankee Candle.
You can get a 3-wick jar for about $25.
Considering the quality of the smell and the duration these products last, that’s quite fair.
Tealights are about $11 a dozen.
Since I’m used to buying my tealights (unscented) at the dollar store, this seems a bit pricey!
Their pillar candles go for anywhere between $15 and 25 for the unscented varieties.
These are the prices that you’d find on their own website. You can also find PartyLite products on stores like Amazon and eBay, but you’ll have to pay a little bit more than you would when buying directly from their site.
You can also find their products at medium-sized chain stores like Shoppers.
Money Back Guarantee & Refund Policy
Like any good company, PartyLite offers a money-back guarantee on their products.
From their site:
We stand behind our quality products and we want you to be satisfied with your purchase. PartyLite will replace any damaged or defective merchandise within 60 days of the date of your payment. Simply notify your PartyLite Consultant within that time.
We were unable to find any reviews about the speed at which they get back to you with your refunds.
Many MLM companies have negative reviews concerning their refund policies.
However, considering that we didn’t find any reviews, this indicates that they’re doing a good job.
Pros & Cons
When dealing with any company it’s important to make sure that you deal with all the pros and cons.
While a lot of people really enjoy working with PartyLite and find it accessible and well-valued, other people have had experiences that are certainly less positive.
It seems like PartyLite is a reasonable company that offers quality products at reasonable prices.
While there are some negative reviews online, the fact that the company has been around and stocking big chain stores for many years suggests that they’re doing a good job.
The business opportunity is more than fair, as well.
You can get pretty good discounts on their products and lots of store credit if you manage to recruit members who also contribute to the company.
They offer a solid money-back guarantee, and we haven’t found any complaints about this online.
This suggests that they’re quite honest and happy to refund any money for products that you’re not satisfied with.
Hopefully after reading this article you’ll be able to make a better decision as to whether or not you’d actually like to take part in PartyLite!
