Humane Acne Treatment Review 2018: Ingredients, Side Effects, Customer Testimonials, Price & Where To Buy
Humane Acne Treatment purports to do just that.
The socially conscious formula entertains only safe ingredients for your skin.
This maximum strength face and body wash includes 10% Benzoyl Peroxide to eliminate acne bacteria and breakouts.
Does Humane Acne Treatment really do the job?
Check out our review below.
What Is It?
The Humane Company prides themselves on their cruelty-free products.
There is no animal experimentation or animal-based products in their formulas.
The company also embarks on recyclable developing and manufacturing methods.
The Humane Acne Treatment includes only “clean ingredients” and receives a high EWG (Environmental Working Group) rating.
This powerful acne medication is not designed for sensitive skin, but can be used by both teens and adults.
Humane Acne Wash doesn’t include any harmful parabens, SLS or fragrance.
Parabens are associated with cancer, reproductive toxicity and disruption of the endocrine system.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a known skin, eye and lung irritant.
Propylene Glycol (commonly used in acne treatments) is linked to skin irritation such as dermatitis and hives.
The active ingredient in this acne wash is benzoyl peroxide 10% (also called acne bactericide).
Benzoyl Peroxide fights acne by diving deep into pores with powerful antibacterial properties.
Bacteria inside the pores is neutralized, which reduces the acne and inflammation associated with acne bacteria.
It is especially effective on whiteheads.
Also, bacteria cannot become resistant to benzoyl peroxide after frequent use (unlike oral antibiotics).
This GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) preservative is abundantly used in processed food, drinks and health and beauty products.
Unfortunately, the GRAS approval doesn’t mean this sucker is safe.
Potential links between sodium benzoate and ADHD, as well as increased levels of hyperactivity, are noted.
In one study, sodium benzoate is also shown to significantly increase DNA damage (known to trigger cell mutations and cancer).
Sodium Hydroxide is a known skin irritant.
As a moderate hazard ingredient, concerns include cancer, neurotoxicity, irritation and organ system toxicity.
It is corrosive to the skin, eyes and respiratory tract.
It also shows toxic and harmful effects to the brain and nervous system, sense organs, and metabolic effects in animal studies — even in very low doses.
The CDC explains:
Skin contact with sodium hydroxide can cause severe burns with deep ulcerations. Pain and irritation are evident within 3 minutes, but contact with dilute solutions may not cause symptoms for several hours. Contact with the eye may produce pain and irritation, and in severe cases, clouding of the eye and blindness.
Aqua (Deionized Water), Carbomer (GRAS Thickening Agent), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (Coconut-Based Cleanser), Gluconolactone (PHA Antioxidant).
How Does It Work?
Benzoyl peroxide targets clogged pores to eliminate acne bacteria and inflammation.
It is a common over-the-counter medicine, used topically as a first-choice treatment by many physicians.
It is considered safe for use by adults, pregnant women and children.
According to the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology:
Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) has been an important component of topical therapy for acne vulgaris for more than five decades due to its ability to markedly reduce Propionibacterium acnes and inflammatory acne lesions and its ability to moderately reduce noninflammatory acne lesions.
However, severe allergy reactions were seen in a rare number of instances of benzoyl peroxide product use.
It is unclear if benzoyl peroxide is to blame or the inactive ingredients present in the product formulas (or a combination of the two).
How To Use It
First, try Humane Acne Wash on a test-area for 2-3 days.
Once or twice a day, apply a dime-size amount of Humane Acne Wash to damp skin.
- Gently massage and leave on skin for one minute.
- You can leave the acne wash on for up to 3-5 minutes, if well-tolerated.
- Rinse well.
- Follow-up with an application of oil-free moisturizer.
Maximum results may take up to six weeks of consistent use.
If peeling occurs, reduce use.
Avoid eye-area when washing.
Avoid sun exposure unless necessary and use sunscreen.
This product should NOT be used by those with sensitive skin.
The Humane company states the following side effects should be expected:
- Additional acne
- Dry Skin
Some customers also saw the following side effects
- Premature wrinkles
- Chemical burns
- Hot-to-touch skin
Serious reactions are rare, but include:
- Severe dizziness
- Trouble breathing
- Itching/swelling (especially the throat/tongue/face)
Benzoyl peroxide is a known bleaching agent for fabrics and hair.
Use white/old towels during use.
Is It A Scam?
It’s probably not the best product out there though.
Although the customer reviews are phenomenal for this product, some of the ingredients are known to irritate the skin — or worse.
This product may deliver the results you’re looking for, but at what price?
Concerns of DNA damage, cancer, neurotoxicity and reproductive organ toxicity aren’t light in weight.
If you plan to use this product for long-term use (i.e. as directed), you may want to take these serious concerns in mind.
There are acne treatment products out there without these ingredients.
They may be difficult to find or more expensive — you may have to search and make sacrifices.
But, it’s better than organ failure.
Humane Acne Treatment Customer Reviews & Complaints
The Humane Acne Treatment receives incredibly impressive customer ratings.
Out of a whopping 2,347 customer reviews, this acne wash received a 4.4 rating out 5 stars.
No short of 71% of reviewers gave this product the full 5 stars.
Another 13% gave it 4 stars.
The Humane Acne Treatment is also the #1 best seller of facial cleansing washes on Amazon.
One Amazon Customer reports:
My daughter has been using this for awhile now. If you have sensitive skin, start off with using it for a shorter time then listed, and work -up to the suggested time. Its a great product, and highly effective for teen breakouts.
Heather Grossman shares:
I’ve tried so many face washes that didn’t work. This one worked right away! I use it twice a day. In the morning and at night. Doesn’t dry my face out or make it feel oily. Even though my acne wasn’t that bad it cleared up what I had. I will NOT use anything else. I definitely would recommend this!!!
Christina Sersif explains:
The company itself is wonderful. They reached out to me personally to see if I liked the product and then when I complained about an issue with the nozzle, they sent me another one no questions asked. I can’t give this 5 stars, because it’s “affected area only”. I wish it was more gentle so you can use it on your entire body, but you can only use it on areas that are affected.
It works great and does what it supposed to do otherwise. I might not necessarily buy this product again only because of it not being gentle for full body use, but I would buy something from the company for other products they may sell. It’s clear they take their reviews and customer service seriously and I find that important in a company personally.
This product destroyed my face. It works for the first 3-4 days, in which it decreases the size of the acne but after that, my face was a house of adult acne that hurts so bad. Waste of money for me!

Pros & Cons
This non-foaming acne wash is a #1 best seller with exemplary customer service.
There are definite benefits to this product — mainly, it actually works for people.
Unfortunately, it may do more than just remove acne.
It may cause serious side effects in both the short- and long-term.
Cystic acne is difficult to deal with.
It can be embarrassing and painful.
If you feel at the end of your rope, this may be a good product to try.
Just remember: your skin absorbs everything on it.
Take this into consideration when searching for your acne treatment.
Eventually, you may not want to put potentially harmful chemicals on your skin — even if it does get rid of acne.
But, for now, this may be the ticket to a clearer complexion.
As always, the choice is yours.
